Adobe: Adobe Software: Adobe Software Making Desktop Publishing Easy Adobe Systems Incorporated was founded in December 1982 by John Warnock and Charles Geschke. The name was inspired by the Adobe Creek, a stream that ran behind the home of one of the founders. Adobe has been at the forefront of desktop publishing since its creation, but it was in 1985 that Apple computer licensed Adobe s PostScript software for use in its LaserWriter printers. This licensure helped to ignite the desktop publishing revolution and readied Adobe to become a major software developer. It was in the mid-1980s when Adobe first launched Adobe Illustrator. This product helped inspire Adobe s flagship product, Adobe Photoshop . Launched in 1989, Photoshop was well-marketed by Adobe and soon cornered the market of desktop illustration. In 1the 1990s, Adobe released Adobe Premiere , Adobe Acrobat and a few other programs which added to Adobe s industry dominance. In December 2005, Adobe acquired its main rival Macromedia in a massive stock swap. This move added Adobe Dreamweaver , Adobe Fireworks , Adobe Flash and a bevy of other Macromedia programs to Adobe s already extensive software titles. These programs amongst others were later bundled and released as Adobe s Creative Suite. Adobe can attribute its success to creating a positive environment for its employees to work.
